During May 2007, whilst visiting family and friends in England, I had the opportunity to produce some of my own work at the art and design department at Caterham school in Surrey
Tim Rees. Potter, now pioneering art and design teacher at the school along with department head Marilyn Kyle, offered me the facilities of the department and use of the schools raku kiln built by Tim and I the previous year. As well as enabling me to work with some new ideas and materials, the benefit to the students too was remarkable. Clearly motivated by the immediacy and speed of the raku process, students were able to glaze, fire and see results from their efforts in a single double period.
Having always worked in solitude, these days at Caterham and the enthusiasm from both students and staff were truly gratifying. Thank you Caterham School. |
